Personal Logo

Branding
January 2022
Since I was an art student in college, I have been making and remaking my personal logo about every 2-3 years. At this point in my life, I have quite a few iterations to reflect back on, but all incorporate my likeness. This is the current version I have created most recently in 2022. Overall I am happy how it turned out.

I created this as a vector file in Adobe Illustrator, mostly utilizing the pen tool and shape builder tool. I originally started this design out within procreate on an ipad, where I could import the photo of myself I was referencing and quickly sketch out the shapes by hand. From there, I separated the shapes and colors for shadows, midtones and highlights. Once I was happy with the look, I imported everything into Illustrator to clean up all the edges and imperfections.

In the last few years I have been caught in the retro 80s wave resurgence. Mostly because the music and visuals remind me of my childhood, I am definitely the target demographic for that movement. So that is mostly what was inspiring me as I created this, most notably the colors and typeface choices.

For the business card mock ups, I wanted to lean in to the retro "outrun" effect created by vibrant colors in contrast to the cool dark background tones. "Joey Jackets" is a goofy nickname one of my friends jokingly would call me, literally based on how many different jackets I owned/wore. Eventually the rest of my friends adopted calling me that and the name stuck, I decided to use it for my freelance business since it is easier to remember and pronounce compared to my real last name.

I wanted to mock up a few other examples to see how the logo would fair on additional applications. I landed on a standard coffee mug (I love coffee) and typical field note style note book. I think it translate pretty well, although I have no current plans to have them created/printed.
